The givens: what we bring to every project

Every Website Tender we receive is unique – accordingly, so is the proposal we write for you – but some things are solidly consistent, project to project.

Alongside the unique needs of every website project there are technical features and requirements that are requested pretty much every time – these include: modern design, good navigation. mobile-friendly and so on. So we can focus your proposal on your specific requirements, but also to reassure you we’ve got everything covered, here’s an article setting out the things that are true of every site we build, as standard.

Design that’s modern and uncluttered Clean, contemporary design isn’t a style preference for us – it’s a discipline. We strip back anything that doesn’t serve the user, leaving sites that feel open, confident and current. See: our selected portfolio of design work

Intuitive navigation Good navigation is mostly invisible – users find what they need without thinking about how. We’ve been designing information architecture for fifteen years and it informs every project from the first conversation. See: Aurora Orchestra

Information found in fewer clicks Burying content is one of the most common ways websites fail their users. We map user journeys early in the process to make sure the most important content is always close to the surface. See: St John’s Wood Church

Strong usability Long before UX became a buzzword we were practising it, under the older name of user-centred design. It’s not a phase or a checkbox — it runs through every decision we make.

Mobile responsive Every site we build works across all screen sizes as a matter of course. With the majority of web traffic now on mobile, there’s no other way to build.

Accessible We’ve cared about web accessibility since the mid-2000s. The WHO estimates 16% of the global population have accessibility needs — and beyond the numbers, an accessible site is simply a better site for everyone. The majority of our sites conform to the A and AA accessibility levels set out by the WCAG. In collaboration with you we can take this to AAA, the most rigorous accessibility tier. SEO optimised Good SEO starts with good structure, good content and good performance – all things we’re building in from the start, not bolting on at the end.

Fast loading and high performance Slow sites lose visitors and rank lower in search results. We build with performance in mind and test before launch.
